Running holds a special place in my heart. I even remember the very first run I ever went on (back in grade 10), it was 3km and I thought I was horrible at it! But despite being out of breath and choosing a route full of hills I remember loving it! It helped me get out of my head, escape what was going on around me and it made me feel free. After that first run, I was hooked and I ran almost every day after school.

Running has been something I have done on and off ever since! Of course, I wish I could go for a run whenever I want but that is not reality! And so with all my starting and stopping, I have some great tips on how to start as a beginner to avoid injury. So take a peek below at just what has helped me and find out some of my favorite running gear too!

My Top 3 Tips As A Beginner Runner

1| Invest In Your Shoes!!

This tip sits at number 1 for a good reason! Since starting running I have run with whatever running shoes I had on hand, it is doable but if you are wanting to exceed, not cause injury and enjoy your runs that GREAT shoes are a must. So do a little research, will you be running on trails, pavement, or a treadmill? The type of shoes can affect your run so much! So make your feet happy and get some good ones, you will not regret it!!

I run on trails so I use a trail running shoe and my favorite is the On Running Cloudventure Shoes and they are AMAZING!!! and a million times worth the price tag!

2| Keep Track By Finding An App You Love

my favorite running app that I have used so far is Addidas Running. It has so many perks and my favorite part is the little challenges you can sign up for and complete. They really help me stay on top of my running plus make it fun to see where you are on the leadership board. Addidas running also has a training app where you can do simple workouts including warmups and cool down workouts which are excellent for avoiding injury!

3| The Only Person To Beat Is You

I always find myself getting in my head comparing myself to people running around me. But to ground me and get myself out of the negative I remember that I am doing it for me! I am doing it for my health, physically and mentally and whatever their pace is doesn’t matter! As long as I am showing up for myself and improving that I am doing great. And on those weeks that I don’t have the motivation to run at ALL, I tell myself a small run is better than no run.

My Favorite Running Gear

Shoes: Cloudventure by On Running
Sports Bra: Energy Bra by Lulu Lemon
Pants: All The Right Places Leggingings by Lulu Lemon
Shorts: Mid-rise Run Shorts by Old Navy
Long Sleeve: Layering Long Sleeve by Diadora
Headphones: Wireless Earbuds by Eritex

Those are my top three tips, invest in your shoes, get a great app and most importantly do not compare yourself to others. I would love to be able to say I could run a half marathon but that is not in my books right now. But maybe one day! I hope these little tips help you and get you into running too! I love it and it is one of my number one stress relievers. So what are you waiting for? Get on your shoes and run!
