Yes, you read the title right! I cloth diaper Greyson and I haven’t ever thought twice about it! Although disposable diapers come with the amazing convenience of not having to do laundry, the few extra loads don’t bother me at all.

Don’t get me wrong though, disposables are GREAT and we have used our fair share. We used them when Greyson was a newborn and we still use them when we go on trips. But when it comes down cloth or disposable, I go for cloth! And below are the 5 reasons why I have made that choice.

| 1 | Savings Savings Savings

Savings is one of the number one reasons why I choose to cloth diaper. Did you know that the average child uses about 2700 diapers in the first 12 months? At that rate, if you are using an eco-friendly brand like Seventh Generation as we were that adds up to about $1000.00 for a year in diapers. (seventh generation diaper are about 35-40 cents a diaper, size depending)

The average full-time cloth diaper set costs $400.00-$600.00 depending on brand, material type and amount. If you add in the detergent and energy use for washing it still does not compare to how much disposables are. If you opt to buy a used set of cloth diapers or are given a set you can save even more!!

The set of cloth diapers I bought were used however the mom said “it just wasn’t for her” so 80% of the diapers were never used. The set I purchased came with 26 covers, around 100 inserts, 2 wet bags, 2 travel wet bags and more for $100.00!!!! A steal of a deal! So if you are just trying out going cloth I highly suggest keeping an eye out for deals and buying used!!

| 2 | Health

Cloth diapers do not contain the same health hazardous materials as disposables can. Such as chemicals, bleaches, fragrances and dyes which can irritate the sensitive skin of a babies bottom.

| 3 | Sustainability

The longer and more you use cloth diapers the less disposable diapers end up in landfills! Did you know that it takes about 500 years for 1 disposal diaper to decompose? That is outrageous! So if you ask me, the amount of water and energy used to wash cloth diapers doesn’t even compare to the millions of tons of disposable diapers that end up in landfills each year.

| 4 |Reliability

We have been using cloth diapers since Greyson was 2 months old and we have never had a blow-out! *knocks on wood* Although we have come very close a few time I believe the elastic band of the cloth diaper has been our savior. Although we have had a few leaks here and there that is due to not changing enough and trying to find the right fit as he grows. I can live with that.

| 5 | Fashionability & Comfort

I can not look past how adorable cloth diapers can be! Like, have you seen all the prints out there? Just adorable! The cloth diapers that we use are unbelievably soft adding an extra level of comfort for the bum that disposables seems to miss.
