Sooo… If you are dying to know anything about the pregnancy or the baby just leave me a comment! Then get ready to hear me gush about all things baby and belly.

Hello First Trimester

Where do I even start? The first trimester was definitely a whirlwind of nausea, stress, and most of all excitement. But aside from the waves of stress and morning sickness, the first trimester was really lovely to be honest. I didn’t grow a huge belly, my normal clothes still fit me, and my fiance and I got to announce the incredible news to our loved ones… It was a blissful time of love and excitement! For me it felt a bit unreal, there was no bump, I was finishing the second year of my degree and we had to keep it a secret for what felt like an eternity. But, as the weeks and doctors appointments past it began to feel more and more real! And with that being said, I get to share my experience during the first trimester with all of you!

Survived Morning Sickness

Lets start with the wonderful addition of waking up religiously at 4 am to pee and morning sickness! They kicked in at about 6 weeks and lasted right up until 13 weeks. By then it started to settle down… Thank goodness! The 4 am wake up was the worst because that meant I also woke up the nausea. This made it very difficult to get back to sleep before my 7 am alarm for school went off. But I survived! And with my best friends soda cracker and animals cracker I seemed to have cracked the code for keeping it down and only ran to the bathroom once. However, it did make my mid-morning classes and concentrating very difficult. But I made it through it. I even managed to write my midterms and final exams while fighting the first-trimester exhaustion and sickness. Too that I am proud of myself. And to all you mothers who experienced horrible morning sickness or are experiencing it, my hat goes off to you! You are rocking it!!

Weight Gained

On a heavier note, lets talk about my weight gain. Things are about to get personal! So before the pregnancy I was sitting at about 117-119 pounds depending on the week. This girl likes herself a cupcake or two but who doesn’t am I right? By my second doctors appointment and first full physical I was weighting in at about 120-122 pounds. That means I gained about 5 pounds in the first trimester. But according to my doctor I was on track for a healthy pregnancy and should be aiming to gain about 20-25 pounds in total. At first this scared me! But I knew as long as the baby was born healthy and happy it didn’t matter! Plus with the addition of pregnancy-friendly workouts to my running and fitness routine, I knew I could handle it!

What Changed

Firstly, I said goodbye to my beloved morning cup of coffee! Something that I decided to give up so that on really exhausting days it could be used as a pick me up. Don’t get me wrong it was not easy, but it did get easier as time went by. Now weeks later and I am thanking myself. I have so much more energy and I do not crash as often! Other than that the hormones definitely kicked up the acne. This made me upset at first but I adjusted my diet, purchased my favourite 3 step Clinique facial cleanser and it settled down! The last thing to change was what I was eating. I craved a mixture of salty and sugary treats from pickles, to fruit salad and worst of all I had to eliminate bananas from my diet. They do not sit well with me lately and they used to be my favourite!

Whats Next

In the meantime, I have started a baby budget, a baby registry and even purchased a few super cute things that I will be sure to share with you in the next few weeks.

 1. Eeeep, this makes me all mushy and reminiscent for my own pregnancy! I remember the first trimester. I was lucky because I only got all-day nausea and no vomiting. Some of my friends weren’t as lucky. They threw up every day until they gave birth. That was rough to hear about. Giving up coffee was easy for me. It was a telling sign that I was pregnant because it made me feel SICK almost overnight. One day, I couldn’t live without it and the next I couldn’t stand to be near it. I don’t think pregnancy could be any more obvious. Now, however, I’m chasing around a fifteen-month-old, so I think giving up coffee would make me cry! I can’t wait to read more of your pregnancy journey! You have a new follower in me 🙂

 2. Have you tried the wedding ring trick? It was the only one that was accurate with Berkley! (I never found out what I was having but every old wives tail said boy, except for the wedding ring trick; it said girl) and I’ve heard it’s hardly ever wrong! 🙂
