Swaddling is one of my favorite tools to ensure a night of peaceful sleep and I am thankful that both Greyson and Emberly liked to be swaddled. But of course, there comes a time when the baby starts to roll and no longer sleeps well all bundled up. And Emberly has reached that point.

And since we are in the process of giving up the swaddle I thought I’d share just how we do it. I’ll be sharing a few signs that mean it is time to transition, the best sleepsacks, and our three-week transition plan. Now, this is just what has worked for us, every baby is different what has worked for our family may not work for yours. So if you need to tweak your transition in any way to for you do then do it! Because good sleep is important to mama and baby.

| Our Three Week Transition Plan |

Stopping things cold turkey doesn’t really fly in my book unless it HAS to. No one likes to stop something in a snap that they were once used to. So that is why I wrote out a little plan on how to transition gradually. Below is the plan and what I followed.

Week One || Swaddle with 1 arm out for all naps and swaddle with both arms in for bedtime.

Week Two || Swaddle with 2 arms out for all naps and swaddle with 1 arm out for bedtime.

Week Three || Swaddle with 2 arms out for naps and 2 arm out for bedtime.

During week two I made sure to pay attention to if having both arms out was working well or not. If it is working well than she should be sleep roughly the same lengths and be feels just as rested. Also the moro reflex should not be present and waking your little one up.

Now, if having two arms free is making your little one’s sleep worsens then just elongated week one and keep them swaddled with 1 arm out for an extra week. Or go back to swaddling for a little while longer. This transition is all bout listening to what works for baby and of course mama too.

This little plan is what I used for Greyson and Emberly and it worked great for us. I really hope it works for you too and makes the transition from swaddle to sleep sack easy for you and your baby. Below are some different brands and styles of sleep sacks to check out too. Personally, we loved nested bean and halo and I would highly recommend them both!!

Until next time keep smiling! And Thank you for reading. Be sure to follow me on Instagram to see what else we are up to and get more tips on motherhood.

xoxo, Taylor.
