I am truly a sucker for a good “do it yourself” project and when it comes to a farmhouse chic one I am head over heels. And head over heels I was when I saw beautifully curated breakfast in bed photos on Instagram and Pinterest all featuring stunning serving boards. I knew I had to make one of my own and so that is exactly what I did! Now I’m eating my pancake and sipping my coffee in the am without spilling and blogging from bed without overheating my laptop. Not to mention it is so practical for some many other reasons and could even be used as a gift this coming holiday season.

So let’s get crafting! This little board is so easy you can cut it, paint it, and assemble it all in one day. Who doesn’t love the sound of that? Everything you need for this project is listed below and can be found at your local hardware store.

| Materials |

– 1 8 foot 1×6 or barn wood

– 12 1 1/4″ inch screws

– 2 Handles

Whitewash (or stain of your choice)

– Paint Brush

– Old Rag

– Sand Paper

– Drill

Start by cutting the 1×6 into the right lengths, you will need 3 longer pieces at 27 inches long and 2 shorter pieces at 10 3/4-inches long. Next, lightly sand the edges of the boards you have cut so they are not so rough. Now it is time to paint, stain or whitewash the wood. If you are whitewashing the wood as I did then follow my easy guide on “How to Whitewash” here.

Once your boards are dry it is time to assemble! Lay the 2 shorter 10 3/4-inch boards facedown then lay the 3 longer 27-inch boards on top of the shorter boards lining up the edges so that there is about a 1/4 inch gap between the 3 longer boards. Once you have everything lined up the way you want you can screw the boards down. I used 2 screws per board per side, you could use less but I wanted the board to be able to carry a good amount of weight.

Now that everything is screwed together flip the board over and add the handles. Place the handles in the middle of the 10 3/4-inch wood pieces on either side of the board. Make sure the handles are both in line with each other before you screw them down. Once they are lined up just right screw both the handles down and voila you are done!

Now your serving board is ready for service! Use it at your next party, have a lazy Sunday with breakfast in bed or invite the girls over and have a DIY party with wine and have everyone build their own. If you want to get a little more creative try painting on a cute saying or picture and use it as wall decor.
